Maria Roginskaya was born in Tula, Russia,
and grew up in St. Petersburg (then called Leningrad).
In her early years she was involved in training for mathematical competitions.
She studied at the St. Petersburg State University.
Her research interests span topics in Fourier Analysis, Geometric Measure Theory, and Functional Analysis.
For the past 17 years she has held a position at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg. She held also visiting positions at the University of Waterloo (Canada), Université de Lille 1 (France), the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Fondation Sciences Mathématiques de Paris.
The book contains lecture notes for a short course which she gave twice to Masters level students at the University of Gothenburg,
and, in an abbreviated form, to a group of faculty members at the University of Lille. As many participants expressed their appreciation, she decided to publish the notes.
